When I was about her age I was really into punk as well. I remember once asking one of my rabbis if it was ok to cut my yarmulka in half and wear each piece on either side of a mohawk. I don’t actually remember what he said, but I didn’t do it. (I think I just wore the yarmulka very far back ;)
Perhaps one day I’ll tell y’all about some of my interesting punk adventures and how it accidentally helped lead me to become super religious. (I know, it’s as crazy as it sounds). But also, in the long run and quite indirectly, how it helped open some doors for (finally) questioning my religion.
